International Fellows/Army War College
Jul 27, 2026 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Please join Hershey Rotary for one of the most inspirational events of the year,  as we welcome the Army War College International Fellows to Hershey Lodge.

Each year approximately eighty senior military officers from around the world are extended an invitation from the Chief of Staff of the United States Army to attend the U.S. Army War College.

The academic year is full of studying, research, and fellowship as these officers are instructed in areas ranging from military concepts and doctrine to national and theater level strategies.

This gathering is one of our most visible opportunities to show that Peace is one of Rotary's most important missions.

The hope of this meeting of officers from around the Globe  is that should conflict ever break out, an  International Fellows officer from Country A will see an International Fellows officer from Country B, across the table, and together, they can work toward a peaceful solution.

NO MEETING - LABOR DAY HOLIDAY
Sep 07, 2026
Labor Day's significance in the U.S. is honoring the American labor movement and workers' contributions to the nation's strength and prosperity, originating from late 19th-century activists fighting for better wages, hours, and conditions, and it became a federal holiday in 1894, marking the unofficial end of summer with parades and rest.
Key Aspects of Labor Day:
  • Tribute to Workers:
It's a day dedicated to celebrating the social and economic achievements of American workers and their impact on the country's development.
  • Labor Movement Roots:
Born from intense labor struggles during the Industrial Revolution, it recognizes the fight for fair treatment, safer workplaces, and rights like the 8-hour day and an end to child labor, says The Desert Sun and Smithsonian.
  • Federal Holiday:
Became a federal holiday in 1894 under President Grover Cleveland, partly to appease labor unrest after events like the Pullman Strike, notes The Desert Sun and Britannica.
  • First Celebration:
The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City on September 5, 1882, with thousands of workers marching for better conditions, say The Desert Sun and U.S. Embassy in Argentina (.gov).
  • End of Summer:
For many, it serves as a traditional marker for the unofficial end of the summer season, celebrated with parties and recreational activities, according to History.com and Britannica.

NO MEETING - INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' DAY
Oct 12, 2026

INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' DAY

On the second Monday in October, we pause to honor the deep roots, rich cultures, and enduring spirit of the first peoples of this land. Indigenous Peoples' Day is a vibrant celebration of the history, contributions, and resilience of Native American tribes across the nation.

#IndigenousPeoplesDay

This day is not just a look into the past; it is a recognition of living cultures that continue to enrich our country's tapestry. It's an opportunity to move beyond stereotypes and learn about the diverse traditions, languages, and stories that have shaped this continent for millennia. Indigenous Peoples' Day also highlights the critical efforts to revitalize and preserve hundreds of indigenous languages, each one a unique vessel of culture and knowledge.

When we celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day, we celebrate an incredible diversity of traditions. Instead of a single culture, there are hundreds of distinct nations, each with its own unique customs. Indigenous Peoples' Day celebrates every aspect for tribes across the county.

Native Americans have a powerful storytelling tradition of oral history, where foundational stories, lessons, and legacies are passed down through generations. Many of these stories are told through artwork, including intricate beadwork of the Plains tribes and the iconic pottery of the Pueblo peoples to contemporary painting and sculpture. Native art is a cornerstone of American culture.
