This week we honored the 2021 recipient of the Club’s “Packy” Award. The Packy Award was established in 2004, to honor Purnell "Packy" Payne who, for four decades through his devotion and musical talent, exemplified the Rotary's motto "Service Above Self".

This award is presented to a Rotarian who displays “Service Above Self” in his/her contributions and dedication to the Hershey Rotary Club and Rotary International through volunteer public service, community outreach and/or philanthropic activities.

The winner receives a certificate in recognition of his/her outstanding community service and a $1,000.00 donation from the Rotary Club of Hershey to a local charitable organization of his/her choosing.

Susan Steadman, this year’s recipient, is an active Rotarian, practicing service above self since she joined in 1992. In 2012 she became chair of our club’s Youth Exchange program and has continued in that role ever since. Being chair of the Youth Exchange committee, is an often challenging position, managing incoming exchange students, seeking and orienting host families for our exchange students each year, managing the occasionally challenging inbound student, making sure we stay connected with our outbound students, and making sure the ever increasing layers of paperwork required by Rotary International and the United States State Department are properly filed.

In addition to her service to Rotary, Susan has demonstrated a ongoing commitment to addressing the needs of the food insecure in our community and region through her work with the Central PA Food Bank and volunteering the Hershey Food Bank.

Congratulations, Susan!
