Quote of the Week:

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, “I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.” You must do the thing you think you cannot do.    Eleanor Roosevelt

President’s Transition & Message

Dear Hershey Rotarians:

Hopefully you all have heard that I have stepped in as President, following this past Monday’s meeting. I can’t thank President Paul enough for his leadership during the past year and for extending his term as President during July. The original plan was for Mike McCormick to become President beginning September 1. However, in order to give Mike more time to recover and regain his strength, Mike and I agreed to switch places with him continuing as President-elect and me becoming President. Mike will become President for the 2021-2022 Rotary year.

While we are moving forward in uncharted territory, I am excited to serve the club as president. President Paul helped us transition to virtual meetings. We all are learning the ins and outs of Zoom meetings. This is a great start and my goal, as President, is to build on this foundation, finding ways to create meetings that are engaging and provide us with opportunities for fellowship and service while most of our interactions will need to be virtual.

One of my goals is to find ways in which we can enjoy some fellowship with each other while maintaining good social distancing practices. I hope that you will check your weekly newsletter to learn about upcoming events.

Rotary Means Service and our club is continuing to provide opportunities to serve our community. Current opportunities include:

  •  Purchasing sneakers for LOVE INC’s annual sneaker drive

  • Cocoa Packs is seeking donations of clothing (including adult sizes) for distribution to its student clients

For more information, please contact Community Service chair, Diana Reed (dianakreed@comcast.net)

Right now, I’m not certain how this Rotary year will unfold. However, I am certain that we, as Rotarians, will find ways to serve our community, support each other, and make our world a better place.

Thank you for your commitment to the Club and to Rotary. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.

In Rotary,

Pam Whitenack

President, 2020-2021
