TRIP TO HAITI
For several years the Hershey Rotary Club has supported the Good Samaritan School in Saint Marc, Haiti. This includes last year’s District Grant in support of the school’s lunch program.  Additionally, several club members provide financial sponsorship. Clem Gilpin and Rod Mortel are planning a visit to the school during the second week in February, 2019. Tentative itinerary will include interaction with students at all grade levels, a service project, attendance of a Rotary meeting, touring a local market and perhaps a little beach time.  The trip should run for five or six days between a Tuesday departure date and a return trip on Saturday or Sunday.  Trip costs will include air travel, accommodations and meals.  We are looking into accommodations at the Moulin Sur Resort or on site housing.  Spouses, friends or other significant others are welcome. Let Clem know if you are interested by late  August or early September.

Quilt Project for 2019 Auction
About two years ago Diane Paul showed me a picture of a quilt she had made from tee shirts that she had collected from events which at the Hershey Theatre. Borrowing that idea, I also had a forty-nine squares queen size quilt made from shirts which I had collected over the years. Last year I showed it to a group of relatives and mentioned that the quilt should go to my great grandnephew who was seven at that time. As showed on the picture below, the quilt depicts varies events in my life from colleges attended, my Peace Corps experience, events on campus, and selected countries I’ve visited. The panels are approximately 14”x13” in dimensions.

I would like to conduct a similar project involving members of this club in producing a quilt for the next year’s foundation auction.  I am, therefore, requesting donations of tee shirts and a few volunteers to stir the campaign.  The shirts should reflect Rotary International or district activities such ending polio, conferences, Youth Exchange, RYLA, Interact and Rotaract, club activities such as our 75th anniversary or personal information such as colleges attended. Members are welcomed to suggest other categories.  Political messages should not be included.

HARRISBURG INTERNATION AIRPORT UPDATE
Timothy J. Edwards, Executive Director of the Susquehanna Are Regional Airport Authority provided an update on the work of the authority in general and more specific information on the status of operations of the Harrisburg International Airport. He mentioned that in addition to HIA and Capital City, the authority also administer the Franklin County and Gettysburg Airports. He suggested that based on the population of Central Pennsylvania, the passenger load at HIA should be much greater. He suggested that at one million individuals travel to major airports such as Philadelphia and BWI rather than flying out of Harrisburg.  This makes it difficult convincing additional carriers to serve HIA
